Carl posted an interesting question on his blog.
This arise from a commercial deployment of REBOL where corporate IT staffs not familiar with REBOL start thinking that it is some kind of rogue processes.
I posted my thoughts on the blog.
To me, the million dollar question is not “Should we change the name?”. Rather, how can we make REBOL more well known.
As a thought provoking name, “REBOL” scores well.
It exemplifies the very essence of what REBOL TECHNOLOGIES (RT) as a company is trying to achieve. RT exists to lead a revolution for computing. One that hopes to make computing simple again.
Yes, you heard it right, and if you have read my previous articles on REBOL, I still believe in it. Computing is too complicated.
Software development as per Web 2.0 requires many layers e.g. PHP/Ruby, HTML, XML, AJAX, Database and more.
The importance of focus remains for RT.
To survive and grow, RT must focus on one single area and dominate that market.
Be the number one leader in that area.
So, the question is NOT ,” Should we rename?”
Rather, “Which market should we dominate?”.
Be well known, very well known for a particular domain.
