Programmer’s Work Time Preferences

I really like reading Bernard’s blog.

Maybe, it’s because of some common traits we share. We love Mac (maybe he > me). And from his latest post, it seems he likes to work at night.

We probably share some similar routines as well.

My day starts with me (and my wife) sending Alexis to school. 2 – 3 hours of the day is dedicated to handling operational stuffs (sales, customers, support issues).

And work will really take a break during the late afternoon unless there are emergencies to look into.

Night time is when I start working with the rest of the developers worldwide. After all, only ANZ is ahead of us as far as time is concerned. Germany starts kicking in at around 3pm but they will be busy with their operational stuffs as well.

Midnight is probably the best time. US on the east coast have started their day 2 – 3 hours and are ready to talk. Europe is ready. Asia is ready. The only ones we missed is the folks from West Coast…. which I will normally communicate at weird hours like 3am or the next morning.

More importantly, during those hours, the night is quiet….allowing the mind to relax. And somehow, we are just more productive then.
